Course
Objective
With the increasing
need for trained professionals in the Biotechnology sector industry,
it has become necessary to have persons with reliable technical
expertise to handle equipment and having thorough knowledge. Keeping
this in mind the graduate degree course in Biotechnology, an intense
course that trains the life science students in wet-lab techniques,
has been developed.
• To train life science students and professionals in various
essential laboratory techniques. The techniques include extraction
and purification of bio-molecules (DNA, RNA and proteins), Biochemistry
related experiments, Electrophoresis, recombinant DNA technology,
cell culture etc (also see syllabus).
• To enhance related professional skills in the students.
This includes training in basic computer usage, verbal and written
presentations, record keeping, safety and maintenance aspects, group
discussions, literature search, bioinformatics and statistical methods.
• To increase the dependability of the participant. This is
done by creating awareness about variations and pitfalls in basic
procedures in experiments.
• Promoting group work and team spirit in the students. Several
assignments and experimental designs encourage (even force) students
to interact and co-operate with each other during the course.
