Meerut district is an education hub in western Uttar Pradesh, India. Chaudhary Charan Singh University formerly known as Meerut University, is located in Meerut, Uttar Pradesh. The university was established in 1965. It was renamed to its current name after Chaudhary Charan Singh, former Prime Minister of India.
