Sustainable Development Goals
Sustainable Development goals (SDGs) are often viewed as high-level global targets, but a college campus is the perfect “micro- ecosystem” to test and achieve them. At IIMT College of Science & Technology, we believe that the students are the primary architects of a sustainable planet. Our institute is deeply committed to the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), integrating environmental protection into our curriculum, research and campus culture. Our focus remains on transforming technical knowledge into “Green Solutions”.
For a college the transition to sustainability happens through three main channels: Campus
operations, Academic and Research Integration, and Student- led Action.
1. Campus Operations (the “Living Lab”): A College can function as a model city by
changing how it manages resources.
SDG 7 (Affordable & Clean Energy) : We are transitioning our campus to renewable
resources by installing solar panels on rooftops, using LED lighting with motion sensors
etc.
SDG 6 (Clean water & Sanitation): Implementing rainwater harvesting systems and
using treated sewage water (STP) for maintaining gardens and lawns.
SDG 12 (Responsible Consumption and Production): Through our “Zero -Waste
Campus initiative, we eliminate single- use plastics in canteens and implement paperless
administration.
2. Academic and Research Integration: Education is the engine for long term change.
SDG 9 ( Industry & Innovation): Our institute motivates students by hosting
hackathons and incubation centers that specifically fund student start- ups solving
environmental problems, such as biodegradable packaging or energy efficient appliances.
3. Student- led Action: The culture of a college is defined by its students’ values.
SDG 13 (Climate Action): Our campus serves as a “Green Lung” for the city. We foster
a culture of Climate literacy, organizing annual plantation drives and awareness rally in
the campus and outside campus.
